FAQ about the 36 km trip

1 What is the difference between the Nature Bivouac 30 km and the Adventure Bivouac 36 km?

The Adventure Bivouac starts from Les Mazes (6 km upstream) and includes the canoe slides on the first day. The Nature Bivouac 30 km starts from Vallon-Pont-d'Arc. Both pass under the Pont d'Arc and include a night at the bivouac. The 36 km is more complete but requires a bit more stamina.

2 Can you choose between the Gaud and Gournier bivouac?

Yes, when you book with the Office de Tourisme des Gorges de l'Ardèche. Gaud is a third of the way through the route, known for its friendly atmosphere. Gournier is halfway through, more intimate, ideal for splitting the itinerary into 2 balanced stages.

3 Is the bivouac open all season?

No, the periods differ. Gournier is open from around early April to late September. Gaud opens later, usually weekends in June then continuously from early July to late August. Outside these periods, bivouacking is forbidden in the Réserve Naturelle. Check the exact dates and book with the Office de Tourisme des Gorges de l'Ardèche.

4 Do you need to be sporty for the 36 km Adventure Bivouac?

Decent physical fitness is recommended but the 2-day pace is much more comfortable than the Full Run in one day. The first day is about 18 km and the second about 18 km, with time to enjoy the bivouac in between.

5 Are the canoe slides included in the Adventure Bivouac?

Yes, the Adventure Bivouac starts from Les Mazes, so you go through the four canoe slides right at the start of the route, before the Pont d'Arc. The Nature Bivouac 30 km starts from Vallon and does not include them.
